Rationale

This course provides a culminating experience in lieu of a master's thesis. After completing the course work requirement, students need to synthesize and apply what they have learned. An IT-based project is an integrating mechanism that will provide real-world experience and an opportunity for the students to demonstrate that they have acquired the skills needed to succesfully undertake the design, implementation and maintenance of a production-grade IT-based solution.

Objectives

At the end of the course, the students are expected to:
  • demonstrate skills needed to design a project development and implementation plan;
  • develop information requirements and specifications;
  • develop and practice essential project management skills;
  • select the proper IT-based tools;
  • discuss outsourcing and alternative implementations of the project;
  • discuss social concerns on the implementation of IT-based projects; and
  • implement IT-based projects.

Course Outline

There is no specific course outline for this course. The student will engage in and complete an IT-based project. Similar to a thesis, the student will have to succesfully defend a proposal prior to the development of an IT-based project. A project committee of three (3) faculty members will be composed to evaluate the proposal, final product, the process of its implementation, and its documentation.
